Ashok Leyland (Unit-I) – Hosur (A Hinduja Group Unit)
Even though there has been a slump in automobile sector, an agreement has successfully been concluded for wage increase from Rs.5,782/- to 6,500/- based on service.
Wage negotiations are on in Ashok Leyland Unit-II, Flakt India Limited, Poonamallee, Areva TD – Padappai Unit.
Areva TD – Pallavaram (Formerly known as Alstom)
After hectic negotiations an agreement was reached here. Here wage increment was to the tune of Rs.8700/- per month with Rs.52,800/- arrears having been paid to each worker in one instalment. The wage hike is the highest in Chennai Region. Com. R. Kuchelan continues to be the president of this unit for several years. Monthly wages in this unit is in the range of Rs.28,000/- to Rs.30,000/- per month.
Audco India Limited – Kanchipuram (A Unit of Larsen & Toubro Group)
When some workers of Audco Kanchipuram who were dissatisfied with the functioning of the union there, started another union and approached Com. R. Kuchelan to lead them, he advised them to disband the union started by them and become the members of the already existing union. He also advised them to get united and ask for election of leadership through secret ballot, allowing anyone to contest for the leadership of the union. In this process, Com. Kuchelan was elected to the leadership. Immediately after being elected to the leadership, he held negotiations with the management for wage agreement and concluded a satisfactory wage agreement. By this agreement every worker got an increase in emoluments to the tune of Rs.6,000/- per month. During wage negotiations, he also got the agreement period reduced from 4 years to 3 years. Arrears of Rs.1.5 lakhs was paid to each worker for the pending period of the wage settlement (covering from the date of expiry of the last settlement to the current settlement). The workers of this unit, situated in a village near Kanchipuram are now getting a salary of Rs.12,000/- to Rs.14,000/- per month.
Audco India Limited – Maraimalai Nagar (A Unit of Larsen & Toubro Group)
Here also an agreement was signed for increase in wages of Rs.5,100/- per month and the period of agreement was also reduced to 3 years. The present monthly wage per worker is Rs.15,000/- to Rs.17,000/-.
Reiter Lakshmi Machine Works – Coimbatore
An agreement was signed here for increase in wages of Rs.4,150/- per month. Further the management agreed to pay Rs.5000/- per year / per employee for Mediclaim Insurance Scheme. This unit has continuously been under our leadership for so many years.
Amrutanjan Health Care
An agreement was signed for both plants at Chennai and Hyderabad to the tune of Rs.3,600/- increase in wages per month. All the Canteen employees were also covered in this settlement for the first time. Further bonus amount was also hiked from Rs.8500/- to Rs.15000/-. The Union was started during 1970 and our leadership continues to be elected in both the places.
