Paschim Banga Khet Majdoor Samity (PBKMS)
- High Court case
A Writ filed in December 2008 for unemployment allowance, compensation for late payment of wages and employment for women has not progressed. However, with struggle outside of court, unemployment allowance has been paid for 28 workers in Purba Midnapore and compensation for about 50 workers in Purulia has been sanctioned.
- Demanding work and wages
In South 24 Parganas, after a long drawn struggle, workers got work for 30-40 days, but wages of Rs.1.30 crores remained due to more than 5000 workers. After much conflict, by last week of June, all this has been cleared.
- Muster roll verification
Through muster roll verification in Nadia district, PBKMS got criminal cases started in two schemes where funds of about Rs.2.5 crores had been siphoned off by the Panchayat Samity and Zilla Parishad.
- Violence on NREGA worksites
In Purulia and South 24 Parganas, PBKMS members were attacked at 3 separate work sites. In 2 places where TMC organised attacks, we were able to pressurise for compensation, apologies and corrective actions. In Purulia, in a CPM led attack, our State Committee member was hospitalised and later false cases were filed against him and others.
