NIOH team to examine Udaipur mine workers
TNN Jun 16, 2011, JAIPUR: A team from the National Institute of Occupational Health (NIOH) will be visiting Jhadole block of Udaipur for conducting medical tests on mine workers suspected to be suffering from asbestosis. The NIOH has intimated the Rajasthan State Mine Labour Union (RSMLU) of the same.
The letter written by PK Nag, director of NIOH, to the Mine Labour Protection Campaign (MLPC) which supports the workers’ union, intimates of its visit and has urged it to communicate with the district magistrate for necessary infrastructure and logistic support. The medical test will be held in a camp on June 22 & 23. “You are requested to ensure that nearly 60 workers are made available each day from 10 am onwards for the camp. In order to facilitate the camp and proper identification of the workers, please depute two responsible officials of MLPC who can endorse the workers’ identity,” the letter states.
The fresh dates for the medical camps were given after earlier dates went in vain with the district administration not helping much for the preparations of the camp. The NIOH had then, in a letter dated February 9, 2011, requested the medical & health department of the state government to make the necessary arrangements so that the medical camp can be conducted.
