Minimum wage issue raised by Daabi Manch in Kolkata
Daabi Manch, a platform formed by AICCTU, AIUTUC, INTUC, TUCI and NTUI in West Bengal held a dharna on 24 June on the issue of Minimum wage.
More than 200 people from various trade unions such as IFTU, Shramajibi Samanway Committee, TUCI, AICCTU, Nagarik Manch, Hosiery Body Cutter, Paschim Banga Khet Majoor Samity came together.
The major demands were revision of existing Minimum Wages in line with the recommendation of ILC and Supreme Court, inclusion of new sectors under the Act, removal of the court injunctions served on Minimum wage declared for several industries, strict implementation of the Act by creating infrastructure at block level, increasing the number of Labour Courts/tribunals matching the strength of total workforce of the state.
Three members on behalf of Daabi Manch met the Minister of Labour, handed over the memorandum and discussed the issues at length.
The dharna was in continuation with the convention which was organised in September last year and a protest in October 2010 before the office of Labour Commissioner to demand revision/ extension/ enforcement of the existing Minimum Wages in the state.
