Health workers in Punjab demand permanent status
19 June 2011, Ludhiana: 500 health workers from the Multipurpose Health Worker Union (Female), Punjab demonstrated outside the civil hospital in Ludhiana demanding that they be made permanent employees. The demonstration was also held after the workers were called for a meeting with the Mr. Satpal Gosain, Health Minister on 14 June to Chandigarh, but instead of a discussions on their demands, they were insulted by Mr. Satish Chandra, the Chief Medical Secretary. The protest was addressed by Kiranjit Kaur, President of the union, Harinder Dosanjh from Mulazim Manch among many others.
On hearing about the protests, the Health Minister, himself reached the dharna spot and reassured the workers that their demands will be looked into and called them for a meeting to Chandigarh on 21 June.
