Asha and Mid-day meal workers protest in Punjab

20 December, Phagwara: Asha and Mid-day meal workers from Mulazim Manch, Punjab and Chandigarh took out a rally on Tuesday in Phagwara in Punjab. The rally started from the ward council park and ended at the city’s bus terminal, where the union members burnt an effigy of the Punjab state government. The rally was addressed by union leaders namely, Kiranjit Kaur, Harvinder Kaur, Harinder Dosanjh, Jasvir Kaur, Pooja and Balvinder Kaur, and said that the Akali-BJP government of Punjab has committed enormous frauds on one hand and on the other hand given only Rs 200 per month as a commission to Anganwadi workers.

They said, mid day meal workers are being paid only Rs 33 per day, on which it is impossible to survive in today’s prices. The workers said they have been demanding their rights for the last 4 years, and they have repeatedly asked for an appointment with the Chief Minister of Punjab, but they have yet not given a time.

The workers finished their protest with a resolve that they will continue their struggle, and come back more strongly, if the government does not agree to their demands.
